A Members’ Combat Leveling Guide: Slayer Edition (RuneScape3)
Hello, adventurers of Gielinor! 🐉 If you’re a RuneScape member, you’ve unlocked one of the best training methods in the game: Slayer. Instead of mindlessly grinding one monster, Slayer keeps things fresh by sending you across the world to battle unique creatures. Not only do you gain combat XP, but you’ll also level your Slayer skill — unlocking access to stronger monsters, better drops, and more money-making opportunities.
Let’s break down a beginner-to-intermediate Slayer journey for members.
🎯 Getting Started with Slayer
Before anything else, you’ll want to speak with a Slayer Master. For beginners, Turael in Burthorpe is your go-to. As you level up, you’ll unlock more advanced masters like Mazchna (Canifis), Vannaka (Edgeville Dungeon), and beyond.
Pro tip: If a task feels too tough or boring, Turael can assign you an easy replacement task.
🦀 Levels 1–20: Easy Tasks with Turael
At the start, you’ll get tasks like cows, chickens, goblins, or bats. These are straightforward and perfect for leveling up your combat stats while learning the ropes.
Loot may not be glamorous, but bury those bones for early Prayer XP.
🧛 Levels 20–40: Mazchna’s Monsters
Once you’re comfortable, head over to Mazchna in Canifis. He’ll assign slightly tougher tasks like:
Zombies & Skeletons
Cave Bugs
Ghosts
Crawling Hands
At this stage, you’ll start to feel the variety. Stock up on food, and remember that some monsters may require certain Slayer items (like a spiny helmet for wall beasts or a witchwood icon for banshees later on).
⚔️ Levels 40–60: Vannaka’s Challenges
Now things get interesting. Vannaka, found in the Edgeville Dungeon, will give you mid-level tasks that boost both XP and drops. Expect to fight:
Hill Giants
Moss Giants
Ice Warriors
Lesser Demons
Dogs & Wolves
These tasks keep you moving around Gielinor and provide a steady cash flow from drops like big bones, nature runes, and occasional rare loot.
🐉 Levels 60–85: Chaeldar’s Assignments
When your combat stats and Slayer are higher, Chaeldar in Zanaris opens up. She’s where Slayer starts to shine. Assignments here include:
Turoths (bring a leaf-bladed weapon!)
Basilisks
Jellies
Aberrant Spectres (with a nose peg)
These monsters not only give great XP but also have some unique drops. Slayer starts becoming profitable here.
🔥 Levels 85+: Bigger Monsters, Bigger Rewards
Eventually, you’ll work up to masters like Duradel or Nieve/Steve, who assign heavy-hitters such as:
Dust Devils
Abyssal Demons
Gargoyles
Spiritual Warriors
Greater Demons
At this stage, Slayer XP flies by, and the money from drops (like abyssal whips, rune items, and herbs) really adds up.
🛠️ Slayer Gear Progression
Early on: Iron → Steel → Mithril scimitar or longsword.
Mid-game: Rune scimitar, dragon weapons once you can afford them.
Later: Barrows gear, abyssal whip, and eventually godswords.
Don’t forget Slayer-specific gear like earmuffs, nose pegs, and enchanted gems to track assignments.
Final Thoughts
Slayer training as a member is the ultimate way to make combat training less of a grind. Every task feels like a mini-adventure — and the variety keeps things fun. From crawling hands to abyssal demons, each kill brings you closer to becoming a true master of combat.
So grab your enchanted gem, check in with your Slayer master, and let’s turn combat training into an adventure. Happy slaying! 🪓🐉
